SWC members met for lunch at the Three Lions Pub in Shorewood. Members brought school supplies to be donated to students in need.
Our speaker was Heather Klug, presenting “Top Tips for Heart Healthy Eating."
Heather is a Registered Dietitian at the Karen Yontz Women's Cardiac Awareness Center, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center
Our presenter, Jon Reddin, shared the story of the late Michael O’Donnell, a 1963 Shorewood High School grad and Viet Nam hero. O’Donnell’s story has been captured in a book by Daniel H. Weiss, “In That Time: Michael O’Donnell and the Tragic Era of Viet Nam."
Richard Gonzalez, a retired Grafton School District principal, shared with us the history of Native Americans in Wisconsin.
Why were Native children as young as four years of age taken from their parents and tribes and sent to horrific boarding schools hundred of miles away from family, spirituality, language, and culture? We learned through the life of the presenter’s mother, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. The use of letters, records, pictures, and oral narratives, carry the truth.
The talented Shorewood High School Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Karen Frink, presented a wonderful winter concert, performing Grieg's Holberg Suite and Holst's St. Paul's Suite, as well as some holiday favorites!
